At least three motorists were rescued on Monday morning after being trapped in their vehicles during the massive flooding that occurred in Lancaster and surrounding counties.  The rescues took place on Langley Road near S.C. 9, Cimarron Road and Hershel Plyler Road.

High water in Lancaster is placing motorists at a higher risk of being involved in an accident or being trapped in their vehicles.

Areas located near Lancaster and Chesterfield counties have received over seven inches of rain and several flood warnings have also been issued.  With more rain on the way, the Sheriff’s Office continues to warn motorists of trouble spots prone to flooding.

Teen Saves Woman From Burning Vehicle–SC Accident Attorneys

A 19-year-old SC teen reacted quickly Saturday morning, when he approached a burning vehicle and proceeded to pull a 54-year-old woman out of fiery car.

The teen was driving home from a friend’s house along U.S. 301, near Raccoon Road, when he spotted the burning 1999 Chevrolet that had wrecked just minutes before. Apparently, the woman driver ran off the right side of the road only moments before it caught aflame. Once stopped, the teen could hear a woman’s voice coming from inside the wrecked vehicle. The teen and another man, wielding crowbars, broke out the driver’s side window.  The woman was able to unfasten her seatbelt so that she could be pulled out of her car to safety.

As they were all backing away from the burning car, an explosion occurred, fully engulfing the car with flames.  Firefighters arrived shortly thereafter to put out the fire.  Claredon Fire Chief commented that  there was not much firefighters could have done for the woman if it had not been for the civilian rescue.

The woman was subsequently transported to Claredon Memorial Hospital for injuries. It is reported that she will be charged with DUI .

Woman Crashes Car in Police Chase–SC Car Accident Attorneys

A woman is facing multiple charges after an SUV crash during a police chase that resulted in the death of her daughter.

When deputies tried to pull over the mother for a simple traffic violation on Interstate 85, she led them on a chase that reached speeds of over 100 mph.  During the chase, the mother’s 7-year-old daughter threw marijuana from the SUV that was later recovered.

Immediately after the crash, the mother’s family and friends told deputies that the child was the mother’s niece and gave an incorrect name for the girl.  On Tuesday, however, the Coroner reported that because of the hospitals privacy policies and a “lack of cooperation from the child’s mother,” the wrong name and relationship had been reported.

The Coroner nevertheless has since determined the correct relationship of  between the mother and the child. The mother remains hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries.

The mother is now facing six charges in connection with the pursuit and crash, according to Sheriff Chuck Wright. The list includes: failure to stop for blue light, resulting in death; driving under suspension, third and subsequent; reckless driving; possession with intent to distribute marijuana; unlawful neglect of a child and an habitual traffic offender charge.

Once the mother has been released from the hospital, she will be transported to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center where the arrest warrants will be formally served.
