Road Rage Shooting Causes Crash in Charlotte

A Charlotte woman is hospitalized after being shot in an apparent road rage shooting in north Charlotte Friday night.

According to police, five woman in a Cadillac Escalade were arguing with people in another vehicle around 11:30 p.m. on Gemway Drive, off Sunset road.

A 40-year-old woman passenger in the Escalade says she and her co-workers were heading to a friend’s home after a Christmas dinner at the senior citizen’s center where they work.  The woman does not remember any words that were exchanged before shots were fired.

One shot hit a 44-year-old woman who was driving the Escalade, causing her to lose control of the SUV and crash, injuring the four women in the car.  The driver was still hospitalized as of Saturday night, but the others had been treated and released.

Police continue the search for the other vehicle.

Two Hospitalized After Horrific Charlotte Crash

Two people are hospitalized after a serious crash on Interstate 77 North in Huntersville.

The driver hit a ditch near the Gillian road exit around 3:30 a.m., ejecting both the driver and the passenger.

According to reports, both the driver and the passenger were under the influence of alcohol.

The two people were transported to an area hospital with potentially life=threatening injuries.

Luckily, no other cars were involved in the crash.

SUV Flies Off Bridge in Charlotte Crash

Two fortunate people are suffering only minor injuries after being involved in a dangerous accident when their SUV flew off a bridge early Thursday morning.

A passerby first alerted emergency personnel just after midnight when a speeding SUV was spotted running off a bridge and overturning down a hill.

North Carolina Highway Patrol arrived on the scene at the 1900 block of Alexis-Lucinda Road near the town of Stanley.

Medics transported the young driver to the hospital.  The passenger was treated and was able to be released at the scene.

According to troopers, the SUV was going way too fast and alcohol was a factor.

It is still unclear whether the underage driver will be facing any charges.

Bicyclist Hospitalized After Being Struck by Elderly Driver

A 57-year-old bicyclist is hospitalized after he was struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning on N.C. Highway 8.

According to reports, the man was in stable condition Thursday at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

The accident happened around 10:16 a.m. when man was riding his bicycle on the 3000 block of N.C. 8 and was struck by a 88-year-old Lexington man driving a 1992 Dodge.

A trooper from the N.C. Highway Patrol said that the driver attempted to pass the bicycle by moving over to the left to provide room for the bicyclist.  As he was passing, the biker swerved over into the Dodge and sideswiped it.  The bicyclist was thrown from his bike.

The bicyclist suffered a brain aneurysm and stroke after the crash.

Truck Carrying Hazardous Materials Overturns on I-85

All lanes of Interstate 85 North were shut down after a truck carrying hazardous material overturned early Tuesday morning.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation had to shut down I-85 around 6 a.m. at the U.S. 64 exit near Thomasville after the hazardous accident took place.

According to reports, crews were dispatched to clean up the scene of the accident.  Motorists were advised to drive slow, pay attention and avoid distractions.

The DOT is conducted an assessment of the clean-up efforts and urged road users to use I-85 business as an alternate route.

All lanes of Interstate 85 have since been opened.
