A SC Councilman has been named in a wrongful death lawsuit surrounding a 201o ca accident that killed a 70-year-old woman.
The woman driver was struck by four vehicles on November 4, 2010. The driver of the first car that collided with the woman’s vehicle has pleaded guilty for driving under the influence. The Councilman’s vehicle was the second car to hit; however, he argues that he tried to swerve and is not responsible for the woman’s death. This argument is further echoed by the Councilman’s attorney.
According to the Coroner, it was impossible to determine which of the four vehicles were responsible for the woman’s fatal injuries.
The Councilman is being sued for over $5 million.

A Great Falls resident was killed last Saturday by a hit-and-run driver, sometime between 3:00 and 6:30 a.m. Sadly, the victim left nine children and his girlfriend of 16 years behind. The accident occurred less than one-quarter of a mile from the victim’s home on Richburg Road in Chester County.
The exact time the victim was hit is still unknown, however the body was discovered by a passing motorist on his way to work around 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning. The victim was reported to be “unresponsive and not breathing,” when the police arrived.
The County Coroner has listed the cause of death as “blunt force of trauma with a head injury.” The autopsy was performed at Piedmont Medical Center, in Rock Hill, SC.
Currently, there have been no witnesses who have come forward to speak of this horrific fatality.

Two weeks ago in the city of Rock Hill, an 84-year-old man was riding in the back seat of a car driven by his son, when the car collided with another, causing an accident. Strangely enough, it was not the impact of the collision that was fatal to the elderly gentleman, but rather it was the shock.
Apparently, the elderly man was taken to the hospital after the accident with no major injury to his person. However, shortly after his arrival, he had a heart attack and passed away at the hospital.
The circumstances surrounding the car accident are as follows: the elderly man and his son were driving on Rock Hill Road around 3:30 p.m., when a car driven by a Florida resident pulled out of a restaurant and into the pathway of the victim and his son, striking their vehicle.
The accident is currently still being investigated, and no charges have been filed yet.

This past Monday, it was reported that a man from Health Springs, SC ran his own car off the road, subsequently striking a tree and taking the man’s life.
The accident occurred a little after 4:00 p.m., on Highway 521, near Shiloh Unity Road.
There have been no details released discussing how or why the man’s car ran off the road. The SC state troopers have reported that the man was travelling south bound when the accident took place. There were no other cars involved in the accident, and no other persons or property has been damaged or injured.Sadly, even though the man was said to have been wearing his seatbelt, he was pronounced dead on scene.
As of this point, the State troopers have not said why the driver’s car ran off the road.

The family of a 39-year-old man with schizophrenia who died after a struggle with Greenville police has sued the city, six police officers and Chief Terri Wilfong, alleging wrongful death “for use of excessive force by deploying multiple Tasers over an extended time and improper physical restraint technique,” according to federal court records.
The suit filed in U.S. District Court alleges wrongful death against officers who were called to the Augusta Street home of Andrew Torres in August 2012 to carry out a probate judge’s order sought by his family to take Torres to the hospital. It also alleges that Torres’ constitutional rights were violated and that Wilfong “failed to promulgate adequate policies and failed to supervise her subordinates who use unconstitutional levels of force in taking mentally ill citizens into protective custody.”
Defendants deny the allegations. According to police, Torres refused to cooperate and scuffled with officers at the time of the incident.
The Greenville County Coroner report indicates that Torres died of cardiac arrhythmia as a result of the use of Tasers, the physical strain of tussling with police, and having an enlarged heart.
The case has been ordered into mediation to be completed by February 4 of next year. The suit seeks both compensatory and punitive damages.
