An elderly couple died last week when their home caught aflame. The Coroner reports that the actual cause of death was due to smoke inhalation. The fire has since been ruled a tragic accident
The Greenville Fire Department was called to the scene of the accident around 12:15 a.m. They reported that the flames were upwards to 20 feet in the air when they arrived.
The couple was found upstairs, most likely attempting to escape the fire. It is believed by investigators that the fire began on the second floor, blocking the couple’s escape down the stairs.
