N.C. State Troopers Crack Down On Charlotte’s Aggressive Drivers

N.C. State Troopers are targeting aggressive drivers in an effort to save lives on Interstate 77.

According to reports, troopers are cracking down on speeding, reckless driving, unsafe lane changes, following too closely and impaired driving.

N.C. Highway Patrol says that I-77 is the deadliest stretch of highway in the Charlotte area due to heavy tractor-trailer presence.  Troopers say over half of the collisions on that stretch involve commercial trucks, with the drivers of other, normal motor vehicles being most common cause.

It is believed that targeting aggressive driving will reduce the types of violations that normally contribute to those types of crashes.

Troopers also believe that increased police presence will also encourage drivers to exercise more caution and awareness on the state’s roads and highways.

The troopers are focusing on both commercial and regular drivers in their effort.

Researchers of motor vehicle traffic predict that a substantial number of the 6,800,000 crashes that occur each year on America’s highways are caused by aggressive driving.  The NHTSA defines aggressive driving as the “operation of a motor vehicle in a manner that endangers or is likely to endanger persons or property.”  Examples include speeding, tailgating, and improper lane changing and passing.  Aggressive driving is unfortunately an all too pervasive trend among American drivers.  And the hurried, demanding lifestyles of most Americans only aggravates matters.  Although aggressive driving does not always constitute an infraction of the law, drivers should always avoid driving habits that threatens the lives of other road users.

T-Bone Crash Hospitalizes Charlotte Drivers

A major intersection was shut down after a violent crash sent several drivers to the emergency room Tuesday evening.

According to police, at approximately 11 p.m. the driver of one car involved in the crash blew through a red light at the intersection of Pineville-Matthews Road and Johnston Road.

Impact occurred in the middle of the crossroads when a white truck crashed into a silver Infinity, causing the two vehicles to careen off the road some twenty feet.

The force of the moving vehicles caused a utility pole to snap in half.

Firefighters on the scene extracted the man from the Infinity among the live wires from the down power lines, but the accident has left some with serious personal injury.

Motor vehicle travel is the most common means of transportation in the country.  So it’s certainly not surprising that motor vehicle crashes were the cause of 90 deaths per day in 2010.  In fact, an alarming 32,885 people were killed in the estimated 5,419,000 police reported motor-vehicle crashes that occurred that year.  There are precautions you can take, however, to help protect yourself and your family and to also help decrease the number of deaths and injuries on our nation’s highways.  Firstly, never drink and drive.  It’s always safer to call a cab or a friend.  Also, obey posted speed limits.  The faster you drive, the more you increase your risk of being involved in a crash.  Try to avoid distractions like eating, texting or fiddling with electronic devices.  Stay alert and never drive while you are feeling fatigued or drowsy.  Lastly, always be sure that you and all of your passengers are wearing a seat belt or are properly restrained before you begin your drive.

Taking the right precautions can make the difference of life or death.  However, even the most vigilant of drivers can be involved in a serious accident.  When you or someone you love has been involved in a serious accident, the Accident Attorneys of Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower can be there to assist you on your path to recovery.  We can investigate all aspects of the accident and hold all parties accountable for your loss.
