Charlotte residents and parents are voicing concerns about bus stop safety for children.

The fear is that cars speeding past stopped school busses and ignoring rules are placing children in danger of being injured or possibly even killed on there way on and off of the bus.

North Carolina State Troopers are aware of these concerns and are on the lookout for drivers who do not stop for the school bus arm.

According to authorities, drivers that are speeding to get to work and drivers that aren’t paying attention will speed past busses, placing children that are getting onto the bus in danger.  This behavior seems to be a trend during both morning and afternoon routes.

Bus drivers have echoed these opinions as well.

Of the 1,368 poeple that have died in school transportation related crashes since 2001, 7 percent of these fatalities accounted for occupants of school transportation vehicles, and 21 percent for non-occupant fatalities.  School busses carry our most precious cargo.  So practicing safe driving around school transportation vehicles cannot be over emphasized.
