Neighbors are speaking out about a dangerous five-lane intersection in Kannapolis.

Residents are required to use busy five-lane intersection to get to and from their homes after the city closed down a road allowed for safer access.

Neighbors have commented that many people have been hurt in the past due to the unsafe roadways.

Mclain Road used to paved and gave access to a stoplight to get on to Highway 29; however, after years of flooding, the city decided against fixing the road and closed it instead.

Now neighbors have to cross the busy Highway 29 intersection, and with continuing developments along the road, traffic is only increasing.

According to city officials, the city has looked into rebuilding the road to prevent flooding, but the impact of the closure and the expenses may be too burdensome.

Intersections can be a particularly dangerous area for road users, especially during peak hours of use, such as rush hour when vehicle volumes are at their highest.
