A 47-year-old Concord man is dead after crashing into a building while driving to pick up his son from Rocky River Golf Club in Concord Saturday afternoon.
The accident happened just after 3:30 p.m., when the man’s black Hyundai Genesis veered off North Tryon Street, crossing a large parking lot and slamming into a building. According to witnesses, the car was traveling between 50 and 55 mph before it crashed into a door on the side of the vacant building.
Crash investigators are still unaware of the cause of the crash but suspect a medical problem may have been a factor. However, they are not ruling out alcohol as a factor as of yet.
Recent studies suggest that drivers who suffer from epilepsy, have a crash rate almost 2 times greater than other drivers. If you suffer from a medical condition that could inhibit you ability to drive, be sure to seek appropriate treatment and discuss with your physician whether it’s safe to drive.
