Three weeks ago, a Lancaster police department officer and two other motorists were involved in an accident when their vehicles collided at a city intersection.
The accident occurred near the intersection of West Barr and Wylie Street in Lancaster County, on Thursday, October 11th, a little after 3:00 p.m. The incident involved a Chrysler minivan and a police officer’s patrol car.
The Lancaster Police Department reports that the city’s firefighters had to arrive on scene and work diligently to fee one of the victims from their overturned minivan after the crash. The collission forced the minivan onto its roof, forcing the firefighters to bend and pry to get the doors off the vehicle and free the driver. The impact ruptured the vehicles internals, causing a rapid gas leak.
Both drivers were reported to have been alert when the medics arrived, although both suffered minor injuries.
Subsequently, both the minivan driver and the police officer were placed onto stretchers and taken by ambulance to Springs Memorial Hospital for treatment.
It’s a scary thought, but it only takes a split second of inattention to lose control of a motor vehicle and wind up injured or possibly even dead. That’s why it’s important for drivers to stay alert and avoid driving while fatigued or distracted.
