Uptown streets were shut down Tuesday morning after a crash involving a school bus and a pedestrian.
The accident happened around 6:45 a.m. on Tryon Street near Stonewall Street. A portion of Tryon Street was briefly blocked while crews cleared the scene.
Luckily, no one riding the school bus was injured; however, the pedestrian that was struck suffered injuries and was transported to Carolinas Medical Center.
Since 2001, 1,368 people have died in school transportation related crashes—that’s an average of 137 fatalities per year. Moreover, the majority of these fatalities, were occupants of the other vehicles involved. School buses carry our children—the most precious cargo on the road. So the importance of practicing safe driving around school-transportation vehicles cannot be overstated.
