Traffic was tied up on both sides of Interstate 85 on Tuesday morning after a fiery, tractor-trailer crash that resulted in the death of one woman occurred after 11 a.m.

Bystanders on the scene report seeing a tractor-trailer with its front end demolished and the remnants of a small, mangled and burned red car.  Both the tractor-trailer and the car had been fully engulfed in flames at one point during the crash.

The truck driver was able to escape the flames just in time; however, the woman in the red car was not so fortunate and was killed in the wreck.

All northbound lanes of Interstate 85 near the Little Rock Road exit were shut down for over two hours.

Authorities commented that it was not yet clear whether charges will be filed.

Charlotte Wrongful Death Attorneys

In 2010, accidents in the United States involving large trucks killed 3,675 people and injured 80,000. An alarming 276,000 large trucks were involved in traffic crashes.  Truck drivers operate heavy trucks to transport goods and materials across the country and beyond.  With the U.S. being one of the worlds most powerful economies, there is seemingly no end in sight for the need for heavy trucks to carry out the demands of trade and distribution.  This reality, however, means that the every day driver shares the road with these mammoth vehicles.  Although truck drivers are required to have certain skills beyond that of the normal driver, risks associated with large trucks remain present and the threat of accidents looms nevertheless.
