Dozens gathered at West Rowan High School today to honor the lives of two students who were killed in a car accident before their first day of school.
Rives, age 16 and Johnson, age 15, were fatally injured when the vehicle that Rives was driving lost control and hit the wall of the Second Creek bridge, right off od Sherrills Ford Road in Salisbury. After the impact into the bridge, the car crossed over the center lane and smashed into an SUV.
The two boys grew up together and often referred to one another as ” brothers,” although they looked nothing alike. The school provided an outlet for visitation of the boys, followed by a joint funeral for the two young lost lives.
Johnson was a member of the JROTC, which raised the school flag and then lowered it half staff in honor of the two young men.
