Early Thursday morning firefighters worked to rescue a man who was trapped inside his car after a violent crash that left his car laying in a front yard, fifty feet off the roadway.
The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. when neighbors who live along the 6900 block of Alexander Road off Providence Road heard what was described as a loud explosion.
Residents rushed outside to find the remnants of a car that had sheared down numerous trees until it finally came to halt in a front yard.
Crews say that pieces of the car from the scene were scattered about in a radius of at least forty yards.
Once the driver was extracted from his vehicle he was rushed to the emergency room. His condition remains unknown.
It is still not clear what caused the crash.
Motor vehicle crashes were the cause of 90 deaths per day in 2010. Every trip to the store or drive across town presents its own set of risks, and road conditions and weather can vary those risks significantly. Therefore, it is necessary to stay informed and take appropriate safety precautions.
