A woman is dead after being struck by an SUV while crossing the street early Wednesday morning in Charlotte.

It happened near the 8100 block of University City Boulevard around 1:30 a.m., according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

Investigators closed University City Blvd eastbound from Chancellor Park Drive to Shopping Center Drive until 4:30 a.m. as CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit processed the scene.

Police say the victim appeared to be a woman on her way home from work.  The driver of the SUV that hit her will not be facing charges since he was not speeding and was going through a green light at the time of the fatal crash.

Recent studies suggest that there is a significantly higher probability that a pedestrian will be struck and killed in a car crash during dark hours than during light conditions.  For obvious reasons, drivers should be particularly alert while driving in the dark as vision is greatly reduced.  If you or someone you love has been involved in a serous accident, day or night, the trusted Accident Attorneys of Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower can help you in finding your most successful path to recovery.  Call now at 704-499-9000 or 877-374-5999 toll-free.
