At least 10 people have been hospitalized after a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 485 on Saturday afternoon.

The crash happened near Moores Chapel Road and I-485 when a 43-year-old Charlotte man looked away from traffic in front of him, and then plowed into the back of several vehicles causing a chain reaction.

Of the 10 people who were transported to area hospitals, 5 suffered life-threatening injuries.

I-485 was closed until around 6 p.m. while first responders worked to clear the scene.
