Our Police force should be applauded for keeping our roadways safe. That being said, we as drivers should return the favor, and always keep a watchful eye for the officer’s safety. When an officer pulls a driver over, then will typically walk up the left side of the vehicle, as that is where the driver is sitting. Thus, the officer is standing between the vehicle and the road, only a few feet from oncoming traffic. Please keep this is mind when travelling our roadways; always merge into another lane if possible, to ensure the officer is not met with injury.

Pedestrian Struck by Trucks–Charlotte Wrongful Death Attorneys

A missing persons case came to a tragic end late Tuesday night when an elderly woman was struck and killed along Interstate 85.

The crash occurred around midnight along the southbound land of I-85 near Freedom Drive.  Authorities say that the 76-year-old woman, who was in the early stages of dementia, was struck and killed just an hour after being reported missing.

The woman was last seen leaving her home, and told neighbors she was going to get her nails done.

She was later spotted by a driver walking into oncoming traffic before she was struck. According to State Highway Patrol, she was hit by two semi trucks traveling southbound. The drivers told authorities that the woman appeared out of nowhere, and that they attempted to swerve, but there was no time.  Authorities say that there was nothing the drivers could have done to avoid the crash.

Troopers believe that the woman was disoriented and did not know where she was.  According to the woman’s two sons, she had been to the neurologist just last Tuesday at the hospital.

No charges are being filed against the drivers who hit the woman.

Most pedestrians are hit when attempting to cross the road at places other than intersections.  In fact, 63 percent of elderly pedestrian fatalities that occurred in 2010 were at non-intersection locations.  With the transportation environment becoming increasingly more complex, and the dominance of vehicles with high speeds and heavy traffic volumes on the main roads, high demands are being placed on pedestrian safety, particularly with regard to the elderly.  Yet, people of all populations can be impacted and all pedestrians should protect themselves by staying alert and informed when walking near roads and highways.  A few simple tips for pedestrians include walking on the sidewalk.  When there is no sidewalk and walking along the road is necessary, walk in the direction facing traffic.  When crossing the street, look left, right, and then left again for traffic.  Cross marked sidewalks and obey signals.  Lastly, make sure drivers can see you by wearing brightly colored clothing.

Child Brain Injury Recovery Not Same as Adult’s-SC Brain Injury Attorney

New pediatric brain injury research suggests that disability caused by child traumatic brain injury (TBI) does not improve after two or three years meaning that quick intervention is necessary after child brain injury.   The research supports the growing view that child brain injury should be viewed in a light different from adult brain injury.

While disability from child brain injury may improve for the couple years after the trauma, the improvement plateaus.
