Interstate 77 Shut Down Due to Dangerous Fuel Spill

Lanes on Interstate 77 were shut down around Statesville after a tractor-trailer crashed and spilled fuel onto the median Wednesday night.

According to North Carolina Highway Patrol, the tractor-trailer broke an axel when it crashed on the north-bound side of the highway near Exit 50, at around 8:30 p.m.

Both sides of I-77 were shut down for hours while crews worked to clean up the fuel.  There is no word of serious injury yet.

Studies reveal that in 2010 alone, 3,675 people were killed and 80,000 injured in crashes involving trucks.  When driving around these large vehicles, it’s important to stay alert and try to stay visible to the drivers.  If you or a loved one is involved in an accident involving a commercial vehicle or otherwise, call the Attorneys at Robert J. SUV Flies Off Bridge in Charlotte Crash

Two fortunate people are suffering only minor injuries after being involved in a dangerous accident when their SUV flew off a bridge early Thursday morning.

A passerby first alerted emergency personnel just after midnight when a speeding SUV was spotted running off a bridge and overturning down a hill.

North Carolina Highway Patrol arrived on the scene at the 1900 block of Alexis-Lucinda Road near the town of Stanley.

Medics transported the young driver to the hospital.  The passenger was treated and was able to be released at the scene.

According to troopers, the SUV was going way too fast and alcohol was a factor.

It is still unclear whether the underage driver will be facing any charges.

Studies reveal that over 10 million youths, ages 12 to 20, in the United States report they have consumed alcohol in the past 30 days.  During that same period, binge drinking among that same age group was 17.4%.  Drinking and driving among youths is a startling and scary reality.  Parents and family members need to look out for warning signs that their child may be drinking and driving for the sake of their child and other road users.  If you or a loved one is involved in a alcohol-impaired while driving accident or incident, you need a lawyer.  Call the DWI Attorneys of Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower at 704-499-9000 or 877-374-5999 toll-free.

Woman Trapped in Car After Crash in Charlotte

Charlotte fire fighters came to the rescue in east Charlotte Tuesday morning when they rescued a woman trapped inside a vehicle after a crash.

According to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police, a woman was pulling out of the Walmart parking lot and pulled out in front of a second vehicle that was traveling on outbound Independence Boulevard.

Officers say the second driver attempted to swerve to avoid the woman’s car, but the cars crashed, causing the first vehicle to hit the median and flip over.

Outbound Independence at Pierson Drive was shut down completely for a brief period while 17 firefighters worked to extricate the woman from the first vehicle.

Concerns about the safety of this intersection have been voiced since the time the store was first built.  These concerns were only echoed after Tuesday’s dangerous collision.

Locals are concerned that drivers are pulling out of this parking lot into interstate-speed traffic.  This is especially troubling for those drivers who are attempting to cross over all four lanes to make it to the Albemarle Road exit on the left side of outbound Independence.

A North Carolina DOT spokesperson says they are aware of the problem and are looking into whether adjustments are needed.  As of now, there are no plans underway to re-arrange the traffic patterns in this area.

It’s a simple fact, the faster you drive, the more likely you are to crash and the greater your risk of serious injury or death.  Notwithstanging the cause of a crash, the driver’s decision to travel at a certain speed directly affects the force of impact.  There are plenty of reasons not to speed that greatly outweigh being prompt to your destination.  If you or a family member is involved in a serious accident, whether or not speed was a factor, you need an attorney on your side.  Call the Accident Attorneys of Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower at 704-499-9000 or 877-374-5999 toll-free.

Davidson Teen Escapes Death in Fiery Crash

A Davidson teen has miraculously escaped serious injury and death after a fiery crash on Interstate 85 Southbound near mile marker 98.

According to Troopers, the 19-tear-old teen’s car experienced tire failure, wet off the side of the road, crashed into an embankment and caught fire.

The teen was initially trapped inside the car, but was able to free himself by climbing out of the back window.

Luckily no other cars were involved the crash.

The traffic accident rates for people ages 16-19 are higher than those for any other age group on the road. Primary risk factors for young drivers include poor hazard detection, low risk perception, risk taking, not wearing seat belts, alcohol and drugs, and night driving.  It’s important for teen drivers to be aware of these risks and the proper safety precautions that need to be taken to mitigate them.  If you or a family member is involved in an accident, the trusted Accident Attorneys of Robert J. Bicyclist Hospitalized After Being Struck by Elderly Driver

A 57-year-old bicyclist is hospitalized after he was struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning on N.C. Highway 8.

According to reports, the man was in stable condition Thursday at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

The accident happened around 10:16 a.m. when man was riding his bicycle on the 3000 block of N.C. 8 and was struck by a 88-year-old Lexington man driving a 1992 Dodge.

A trooper from the N.C. Highway Patrol said that the driver attempted to pass the bicycle by moving over to the left to provide room for the bicyclist.  As he was passing, the biker swerved over into the Dodge and sideswiped it.  The bicyclist was thrown from his bike.

The bicyclist suffered a brain aneurysm and stroke after the crash.
