Charlotte Moped Driver Killed in Crash with SUV

A driver is facing possible charges after a crash with a moped along Park Road that left one man dead.

Authorities say that the driver of the Moped was headed inbound from the 3400 block of Park Road at approximately 7 p.m. when a Honda CRV pulled out in front of him while attempting to make a right hand turn.  The driver of the moped slammed on his brakes and laid the scooter on its side along the roadway.

The moped crashed into the rear of the Honda and hit another nearby car.

Although first responders rushed to the scene, they were unable to save the victim.  The driver of the Honda was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle as well as failure to yield.

The driver of the other vehicle involved was not charged.  The road was shut down for several hours late Wednesday night while investigators conducted an investigation and cleared the scene.

Mopeds and scooters may be fun to ride, and an escape from the every day confines of the car; however, when it comes to traffic collisions, not much stands between a moped driver and the road.  So if you or someone you love has been injured due to an accident, call the Accident Attorneys of Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower  to discuss your recovery plan. As we get older, it’s perfectly normal for our driving abilities to change.  By taking certain precautions and incorporating  safe driving practices, many can continue safe driving well into our senior years. But it’s important to pay attention to warning signs that aging may interfere with our safety and make the appropriate adjustments.  Firstly, seniors should take charge of their health and have open conversations with doctors and family to voice concerns.  It’s also important for seniors to find the right car to suit their needs as well as their limitations.

South Carolina Car Accident near Rock Hill Left Two Dead

Two Kershaw residents were killed over the weekend when they were involved in a crash that ended in fatality. According to the police report, a Kershaw mother and her child were travelling southbound on U.S. 1, while a pick up truck was travelling in the opposite direction.

The mother, who was 23-years-old, and her 2-year-old daughter were apparently driving a Camry sedan, when the truck driving in the opposite direction crossed over the center line and hit the mother and her child head on.

The truck driver was also a Kershaw resident, age 36, and was driving his Dodge pickup truck at the time of the accident.

Unfortunately, the young mother, as well as the passenger in the Dodge Truck both lost their lives due to the accident. However, the light at the end of the tunnel is that the 2-year-old child was strapped safely in her car seat, and survived the accident unscathed.

The accident is still currently under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Studies conducted in 2010 revealed that 4,280 pedestrians were killed and an estimated 70,000 were injured in traffic crashes in the U.S.  On average, a pedestrian was killed every 2 hours and injured every eight minutes in traffic collisions.  Road safety is a responsibility for all road users, drivers and pedestrians alike.  However, pedestrians can take extra precautions to ensure that the inherent vulnerability of walking around motor vehicles can be mitigated as much as possible.  If you are a pedestrian traveler, be sure stay visible to drivers by wearing bight and/or reflective clothing and carrying a flashlight.  Walk and stand clear of buses, hedges, parked vehicles, and other hazards before crossing.

Near Head On Crash Shuts Down Independence Blvd–Charlotte

A Charlotte driver was trapped in his car for over ten minutes after blowing through a red light on Independence Boulevard and crashing into an SUV on Thursday morning.

The man was driving a silver sedan heading outbound on East Independence Boulevard at a high rate of speed with his headlights off.  He ran a stop light, crashing with an SUV nearly head on.

The crash sent both cars spinning wildly out of control, causing a debris field over fifty yards wide.

The two people in the SUV, a father and daughter, were transported to Carolinas Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the silver sedan who caused the crash suffered critical injuries, but should be able to recover, according to Medics.

Police say alcohol may have played a role in the crash.

With motor vehicle travel being the most common means of transportation in the U.S., it’s not surprising that motor vehicle crashes were the cause of 90 deaths per day in 2010.  In fact, an alarming 32,885 people were killed in the estimated 5,419,000 police reported motor-vehicle crashes that occurred that year.  There are precautions you can take, however, to help protect yourself and your family and to also help decrease the number of deaths and injuries on our nation’s highways.  Firstly, never drink and drive.  It’s always safer to call a cab or a friend.  Also, obey posted speed limits.  The faster you drive, the more you increase your risk of being involved in a crash.  Try to avoid distractions like eating, texting or fiddling with electronic devices.  Stay alert and never drive while you are feeling fatigued or drowsy.  Lastly, always be sure that you and all of your passengers are wearing a seat belt or are properly restrained before you begin your drive.

Taking the right precautions can make the difference of life or death.  However, even the most vigilant of drivers can be involved in a serious accident.  When you or someone you love has been involved in a serious accident, the BPersonal Injury Attorneys of Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower can be there to assist you on your path to recovery.  We can investigate all aspects of the accident and hold all parties accountable for your loss. Two Hospitalized After Violent Charlotte Hit And Run

Two people were transported to the hospital early Friday morning after being involved in a violent hit-and-run crash in uptown Charlotte.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. a car blew through a red light, crashing into an SUV traveling down Trade street.

The crash sent the SUV spinning off the road, coming to a sudden halt after colliding with a power pole.

Firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes of the crash and extracted two people out of the passenger door.  They suffered non life-threatening injuries from the crash.

The driver who caused the crash was last seen traveling down Church Street.  Police continue to search for the driver.

The rate of traffic deaths that occur at night are three times higher than those that occur during the day.  Night driving presents an entirely new set of hazards that many drivers may not be aware of or don’t know effective ways to deal with them.  The most obvious reason for this is the fact that it is dark.  This fact is particularly significant since an alarming ninety percent of a driver’s reaction depends on vision, which is severely limited at night.  After sundown, depth perception, peripheral vision, and color recognition are all compromised.  Therefore, taking a few simple precautions could make a difference of life or death for you and your loved ones.  If you are driving at night, be sure that your car is prepared for driving.  Ensure that all of your lights are working properly and are properly aimed.  Never drink and drive and avoid smoking while driving.  Reduce your speed and increase your following distances.  If you find yourself fatigued, make frequent stops for light snacks and/or exercise.

Crews say that pieces of the car from the scene were scattered about in a radius of at least forty yards.

Once the driver was extracted from his vehicle he was rushed to the emergency room.  His condition remains unknown.
