Highway Patrol Asking Drivers For a Safe New Year’s

With the New Year’s Holiday approaching, North Carolina Highway Patrol is urging motorists to bring in the new year safely by refraining from driving while impaired, remembering to wear seat belts and staying focused while on the road.

Last year, North Carolina experienced ten motor-vehicle fatalities between Christmas and New Year’s.

Already, two fatalities have been reported this year as of 11:59 p.m. Christmas day.

North Carolina troopers have investigated a shocking 5,545 collisions attributed to alcohol impairment this year.  This number is an unfortunate increase from last year’s total.  That’s why it’s more important than ever to ask motorists to practice safe driving techniques while celebrating the New Year. Whether it’s New Year’s eve or any other day of the year, if you are involved in a serious accident, you need competent and experienced representation as you map your most successful path to recovery.  Call the Accident Attorneys of Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower at 704-499-9000 or 877-374-5999 toll-free.

Man Killed While Pushing Stalled Vehicle

According to North Carolina Highway Patrol, a 48-year-old North Carolina man is dead after being struck by a car while he was pushing his stalled SUV on McArthur Road.

The man was pushing his 1995 Ford SUV early Wednesday morning wen he was struck from behind by a man driving a 2013 Hyundai.

The 31-year-old driver of the Hyundai was charged with driving under the influence.

There was also a woman witness who had been steering the SUV.  However, she left the scene after the accident.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.

Studies reveal that of the 10,839 people who were killed in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes in 2009 were drivers with a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher.  The remaining fatalities that year consisted of 2,891 motor-vehicle occupants and 667 non-occupants.  If you plan on consuming alcohol, be sure to make plans for your traveling or arrange for a designated driver.  Unfortunately, drunk driving continues to injure people and take lives, despite widespread action to counteract and prevent its occurrence.  If you have been involved in a drunk driving incident, call the Attorneys of Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower at 704-499-9000 or 877-374-5999 toll-free.

South Charlotte Crash Involves CMPD Cruiser

An accident involving a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer caused delays on a busy south Charlotte road Friday morning.

The crash happened on Providence Road at Pineville-Matthews road.  A CMPD cruiser was involved in the messy crash.

Crews worked to clear the scene of the accident while traffic backed up along the nearby roadways.

Details are still forthcoming on the seriousness of the injuries caused by crash.

Studies conducted by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund reveal that approximately 162 police officers die each year in the line of duty.  Our police officers have a dangerous job.  Unfortunately, even police officers can be injured or killed in traffic accidents while on the job.  If you or a loved one is involved in a serious accident with an emergency vehicle, call the Accident Attorneys of Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower at 704-499-9000 or 877-374-5999 toll-free.

Fatal Mint Hill Crash Caused By Speed

Authorities believe speed to be the cause of a fatal accident in Mint Hill Friday night.

Police were dispatched to Lawyers Road and Truelight Church Road in reference to a hit and run causing property damage.

Once authorities arrived on the scene of the crash they found a 25-year-old Concord man dead after he had crashed his 2001 Chevrolet Truck.

The man had crashed into a mailbox and overturned his truck before finally coming to a rest on all four wheels.

It is still unknown whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.

As the speed you drive increases, your chances of being involved in a crash causing serious injury or death increases exponentially.  Speed is the number one cause of traffic collisions and quite possibly one of the most controllable.  If you or someone you know and love has been in a serious collision involving speed, it’s time to call the experienced Accident Attorneys of Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower at 704-499-9000 or 877-374-5999 toll-free.

Fatal South Charlotte Crash

A young man is dead after the SUV he was driving crashed into a tree in a south Charlotte neighborhood Tuesday morning.

It happened around 11:20 a.m. off Lindstrom Drive near Carmel Road just south of Quail Hollow Country Club.

The 20-year-old was driving a white 2000 Toyota 4 Runner when he crashed into a tree near an intersection.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene.

He was apparently a crew member on the popular show ‘Homeland,’ as much of the series was filmed in the Charlotte area this past year.

According to investigators, excessive speed may have contributed to the crash; moreover, police say he was not wearing a seat belt.

Nearly one third of all motor-vehicle accidents can be attributed to speeding. In fact, the chances of being in a potentially serious accident increase exponentially as the rate of speed of an automobile increases.  Driving is not a game and safe driving techniques include obeying the speed limit.  If you have been injured in a motor vehicle accident that involves excess speed or otherwise, it’s time to call the Accident Attorneys of Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower at 704-499-9000 or 877-374-5999 toll-free.
