The North Carolina Interstate 85 was filled with 21 tons of beer August 18th, when a tractor-trailer truck collided with another vehicle, spilling the tons of Hoppy Libations across the roadways.
The location of the car accident was on I-85 North in Gastonia, NC, and occurred on or about 5:00 p.m. Traffic reports were inflated drastically due to the accident, especially during the ” 5:00 o’clock traffic rush.”
The cause of the accident has been investigated, and it appears as though during a rain storm, the driver of the car spun out of control, slamming into the driver of the tractor-trailer. It was truck driver Jessie Cabiness’ 40th birthday on the date of the accident.
Luckily, there were no injuries that arose from the car accident, aside from the fact that the shipping company is taking the entire shipment of beer to the dump.
Police said the car driver was cited for driving unsafe for the conditions.

Truckers in Hazardous Weather Required to Stop and Use “Extreme Caution”
When weather conditions affecting visibility or traction turn dangerous, truckers are supposed to stop their rig until the weather clears. There is a federal law standard of “extreme caution” versus a state standard of “ordinary care” required of interstate commercial truckers. If truckers do not follow this federal standard, then they and the companies who hire them should be held responsible for any serious injury or wrongful death they cause.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, 49 C.F.R. § 392.14 mandates:
Extreme caution in the operation of a commercial motor vehicle shall be exercised when hazardous conditions, such as those caused by snow, ice, sleet, fog, mist, rain, dust, or smoke, adversely affect visibility or traction. Speed shall be reduced when such conditions exist. If conditions become sufficiently dangerous, the operation of the commercial motor vehicle shall be discontinued and shall not be resumed until the commercial motor vehicle can be safely operated. Whenever compliance with the foregoing provisions of this rule increases hazard to passengers, the commercial motor vehicle may be operated to the nearest point at which the safety of passengers is assured.

Last Wednesday afternoon was a slow one for fellow drivers of the Hickory area. A large portion of one of the major roadways in Hickory, Tate Boulevard, was shut down for several hours due to an overturned tractor-trailer, causing major delays in traffic.
The wreck involved only one tractor-trailer that overturned while attempting to make a sharp left turn onto Tate Blvd. from 26th Street Drive in Hickory. The accident occurred around 3:10 p.m. Speed attributed to the cause of the accident, as the driver of the tractor-trailer did not slow his rig to the speed needed to make the angle of the turn.
Making matters worse, as the officials attempted to turn the vehicle upright, the truck was quickly compromised and caught aflame. Apparently, the truck was carrying fuel, in which one of the barrels has a leak that initiated the fire. The Hickory Fire Department was subsequently called to the scene.
Thereafter, another tractor-trailer was called to the scene to unload the fuel and other supplies from the overturned vehicle in order to lighten the load and turn the vehicle upright, once and for all.
