Last Tuesday, there was an accident that caused traffic from West Charlotte to the South Carolina State line on Interstate-485 around 2:30 p.m.
According to the police report, a North Carolina DOT vehicle was involved in the accident, injuring a Shelby resident. The crew member was taken to the hospital shortly after the accident, which is currently still under investigation.
The accident caused the two left lanes to be shut down for almost 2 hours, causing horrific traffic from Mecklenburg to York County.

Commuters were literally in a fog on their Thursday morning drive when zero visibility on the road caused a four car crash on the Interstate loop of 485.
The car crash occurred near Providence drive and the fog caused big delays as drivers attempted to find their way around the crash. Luckily, no injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
Delays due to the fog in were also reported in other areas of Charlotte. Portions of Interstate 77, south and north Charlotte, Catawba, Caldwell, Burke, Alexander, northern Iredell, and Rowan Counties all had reports of fog, some even reaching points of zero visibility.
Fog forms when temperature drops to the dew point and the water vapor in the air becomes visible, suspended water droplets. Fog can reduce visibility for drivers up to 1/4 of a mile or less, creating dangerous driving conditions. If you cannot postpone your plans until a dense fog has cleared, there are several precautions that you should exercise while driving. Firstly, drive slowly with your low beams on since high beams will only be reflected back off of the fog, creating more visibility impairment. A 27-year-old woman was killed on Friday morning when she lost control of her car at the intersection of East Sugar Creek Road and North Tryon Street.
The crash occurred at around 7 a.m. when the woman, driving a 2002 Toyota Highlander, hit a curb, went up onto the sidewalk and flipped over several times before coming to a halt in a church yard. While the woman’s car was flipping through the intersection, she crashed into three other cars. Three people suffered non-life threatening injuries from the crash.
Speed is believed to have been a contributing factor to the crash.
The woman was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:21 a.m.

Three Charlotte firefighters were treated for non-life threatening injuries Monday when the fire truck they were in ran off the road and crashed into a tree.
The truck was headed toward a medical call on Shopton Road West near Westinghouse Boulevard when the truck ran off the road and crashed into a tree.
The firefighters, from Station No. 38, were all treated and released from a local hospitals for their injuries.
There were no other cars involved in the crash. The cause of the crash is still under investigation by Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Officers.
The crash caused significant damage to the truck, costing nearly $500,000.

A crash involving two tractor-trailors blocked two of the three northbound lanes of Interstate 77 in Charlotte Friday.
The Department of Transportation said that it managed to clear one lane for traffic to pass, but all northbound lanes initially had to be shut down.
Several other cars were involved in the crash also.
Some injuries were reported, however the severity of injuries is not yet known.
Studies from 2010 reveal that 3,675 people were killed and 80,000 people injured in crashes involving large trucks. During that same year, 276,00 large trucks were involved in traffic crashes. Of the fatalities involving large trucks reported in 2010, 76 percent were occupants of other vehicles, 10 percent were non occupants, and 14 percent were occupants of the large trucks.
Although truck drivers are required to have more skills than the normal driver, the shear size of these vehicles provides reason enough to exercise caution. A multi-vehicle crash blocking all lanes on South Boulevard during rush hour left four injured last Friday. The crash occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m. just south of Arrowood Road.
According to emergency crews, four people suffered life-threatening injuries were transported to a local hospital.
The crash involved five vehicles and caused major delays for people leaving work on Friday evening.
Crews were finally able to clear the scene and reopen all lanes.
