Four Hospitalized After Head-on Tractor-Trailer Crash–Davidson

Four people, including three children, were hospitalized after crashing head-on into a tractor-trailer on U.S. 64 East near N.C. 109 in Davidson County Saturday.

According to authorities, the crash occurred around 2 p.m. when a eastwardly bound Nissan passenger car collided with a tractor-trailer that was headed in the opposite, westbound lane.

All four people in the car were transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, three with serious injuries and one with critical injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Studies from 2010 reveal that 3,675 people were killed and 80,000 people injured in crashes involving large trucks.  During that same year, 276,00 large trucks were involved in traffic crashes.  Of the fatalities involving large trucks reported in 2010, 76 percent were occupants of other vehicles, 10 percent were nonoccupants, and 14 percent were occupants of the large trucks.

Although truck drivers are required to have more skills than the normal driver, the shear size of these vehicles provides reason enough to exercise caution.  When you or someone you love has been involved in a serious accident, the Tractor-Trailer Accident Attorneys of Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower can be there to assist you on your path to recovery.  Call us today and speak directly with one of our lawyers at 704-499-9000 or 877-374-5999 toll-free.

Rock Hill Child Calls 911 on Drunk Mom

The Rock Hill Police Department received a disturbing phone call this past Sunday, when an 11-year-old child called to report that her mother was drunk driving while the child was a passenger in the vehicle. According to the Rock Hill police report, the 38-year-old mother was subsequently charged with a DUI and child endangerment.

When the police arrived at the child’s home, the little girl pointed out the car her mother was driving and who her mother was. The police found the vehicle parked sideways on the sidewalk, partially blocking pedestrians from the entrance way to the apartment complex.

Moreover, the child told the police that she was the only passenger on the car at the time the mother was driving; that the mom had already consumed two beers and two medium-sized margaritas; and lastly, that the mother had almost hit two cars while driving herself and the daughter home.

At first, the mother was hostile towards the police until that amounted in failure. In a second attempt, the mother became flirtatious with the officer, winking and calling one “love,” in attempts to escape charges.

Fortunately, the flirting had no impact and the mother was properly charged.

Children Injured in Charlotte Crash Causing Damage

According to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police, a crash in west Charlotte involving two cars left eight people injured Tuesday evening.

The accident occurred just before 6 p.m. at the intersection of West Boulevard and Old Steele Creek Road.  Among the eight injured, two were children.  The children suffered non-life threatening injuries.  One patient was transported to the hospital with potentially life threatening injuries.

Six individuals were taken to CMC Main, while two were transported to Presbyterian Main.

Both vehicles were said to have suffered heavy damage.  The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.

In the United States, motor vehicle travel is the most common means of transportation.  So it’s not surprising that motor vehicle crashes were the cause of 90 deaths per day in 2010.  In fact, an alarming 32,885 people were killed in the estimated 5,419,000 police reported motor-vehicle crashes that occurred that year.  There are precautions you can take, however, to help protect yourself and your family and to also help decrease the number of deaths and injuries on our nation’s highways.  Firstly, never drink and drive.  It’s always safer to call a cab or a friend.  Also, obey posted speed limits.  The faster you drive, the more you increase your risk of being involved in a crash.  Try to avoid distractions like eating, texting or fiddling with electronic devices.  Stay alert and never drive while you are feeling fatigued or drowsy.  Lastly, always be sure that you and all of your passengers are wearing a seat belt or are properly restrained before you begin your drive.

Taking the right precautions can make the difference of life or death.  However, even the most vigilant of drivers can be involved in a serious accident.  When you or someone you love has been involved in a serious accident, the Accident Attorneys of Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower can be there to assist you on your path to recovery.  We can investigate all aspects of the accident and hold all parties accountable for your loss.
