Children Injured in Charlotte Crash Causing Damage

According to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police, a crash in west Charlotte involving two cars left eight people injured Tuesday evening.

The accident occurred just before 6 p.m. at the intersection of West Boulevard and Old Steele Creek Road.  Among the eight injured, two were children.  The children suffered non-life threatening injuries.  One patient was transported to the hospital with potentially life threatening injuries.

Six individuals were taken to CMC Main, while two were transported to Presbyterian Main.

Both vehicles were said to have suffered heavy damage.  The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.

In the United States, motor vehicle travel is the most common means of transportation.  So it’s not surprising that motor vehicle crashes were the cause of 90 deaths per day in 2010.  In fact, an alarming 32,885 people were killed in the estimated 5,419,000 police reported motor-vehicle crashes that occurred that year.  There are precautions you can take, however, to help protect yourself and your family and to also help decrease the number of deaths and injuries on our nation’s highways.  Firstly, never drink and drive.  It’s always safer to call a cab or a friend.  Also, obey posted speed limits.  The faster you drive, the more you increase your risk of being involved in a crash.  Try to avoid distractions like eating, texting or fiddling with electronic devices.  Stay alert and never drive while you are feeling fatigued or drowsy.  Lastly, always be sure that you and all of your passengers are wearing a seat belt or are properly restrained before you begin your drive.

Taking the right precautions can make the difference of life or death.  However, even the most vigilant of drivers can be involved in a serious accident.  When you or someone you love has been involved in a serious accident, the Accident Attorneys of Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower can be there to assist you on your path to recovery.  We can investigate all aspects of the accident and hold all parties accountable for your loss. Overturned DOT Truck Shuts Down Interstate 485

A crash involving a Department of Transportation vehicle brought traffic to a halt on Interstate 485 in northwest Charlotte Tuesday afternoon. Two lanes were shut down around mile marker 14 as a result of the crash, which occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m.

The DOT truck sideswiped a pickup truck, forcing the DOT truck to swerve left, crash into the median, hit a guardrail and overturn. The 56-year-old DOT truck driver suffered non-life threatening injuries.  The pickup truck driver was not injured.

All three lanes of the intersection were reopened around 4:45 p.m. after crews cleaned up fuel the spilled onto the highway.

Studies from 2010 reveal that 3,675 people were killed and 80,000 people injured in crashes involving large trucks.  During that same year, 276,00 large trucks were involved in traffic crashes.  Of the fatalities involving large trucks reported in 2010, 76 percent were occupants of other vehicles, 10 percent were non-occupants, and 14 percent were occupants of the large trucks.

Although truck drivers are required to have more skills than the normal driver, the shear size of these vehicles provides reason enough to exercise caution.  When you or someone you love has been involved in a serious accident, the Accident Attorneys of Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower can be there to assist you on your path to recovery.  We can investigate all aspects of the accident and hold all parties accountable for your loss. EMT Killed in Rock Hill in Tractor -Trailer Accident

An EMT was killed last Tuesday morning, where a tractor-trailer and ambulance were involved in a deadly crash in front of the Carolinas Medical Center-Union.

The tractor-trailer was being driven by a man from Madison, NC who was traveling westbound on Independence Boulevard, when the tractor collided with an ambulance that was pulling abruptly into the roadway from the hospital parking lot.

The driver of the ambulance suffered some minor injuries, but has since been stabilized at the hospital. Moreover, it has since been confirmed that the EMT passenger in the ambulance, was in fact killed in the crash.

Fortunately for the driver of the tractor-trailer, he suffered no serious injury from the crash. Moreover, there were no patients in the ambulance yet, as it was en route to the hospital to pick up a patient at the time of the collision.

Wrongful death cases are multifaceted. A thorough investigation must be started almost immediately in order to preserve critical evidence in a fatality. Autopsies are almost always necessary to determine the exact mechanism and cause of death. There is the issue of whether the decedent died instantly or may have a “survival action.” The medical reports can be very confusing as they include external anatomy examination, internal organ examination, microscopic review of tissues, as well as fluid toxicology testing for drugs, alcohol, or disease.
