Rock Hill Woman Found Stealing is Charged with Shoplifting

A Rock Hill resident was apprehended by police when to woman was caught stealing almost 50 separate pieces of jewelry from the Rock Hill Galleria.

According to a police report, the woman went to the Belk Store at the Rock Hill Galleria on Friday night with a pillow case and her purse in hand.

The woman took price tags off several pieces of jewelry and put them in the pillow case, which was concealed by a jacket she was wearing.When the woman attempted to leave the store, a security guard stopped her and confiscated around $2,000 worth of jewelry she had stolen.

After apprehending the suspect, authorities charged her with shoplifting.

Getting charged with shoplifting in the state of South Carolina is a very serious crime. Furthermore if one has purposefully concealed the items in question, the prosecution may use evidence against the defendant to presume shoplifting has occurred.

According to South Carolina Statutes, Sections 16-13-110 defines “concealment” in terms of shoplifting means “to hide merchandise on the person or among the belongings of a person so that, although there may be some notice of its presence, it is not visible through ordinary observation.” S.C. Stat. 16-13-110(2006).

Moreover, section 16-13-120 allows for the state to draw a presumptions from concealment of unpurchased goods, stating in pertinent part that ” it is permissible to infer that any person wilfully concealing unpurchased goods or merchandise of any store or other mercantile establishment either on the premises or outside the premises of the store has concealed the article with the intention of converting it to his own use without paying the purchase price thereof” within the meaning of the concealment definition provided above.S.C. Stat. 16-13-120(2006)

Rock Hill Woman Arrested For Inhaling From Can

A 50-year-old Rock Hill woman has been apprehended by authorities on site at a cemetary last Monday, where she was caught inhaling  fumes from a computer duster spray can.

According to a police report, officers were dispatched to the Forest Hills Cemetery on Old York Road.  A witness had called in claiming a woman was parked in a silver colored SUV in the cemetery and that she was holding some type of can.

Officers approached the car and the woman was passed out behind the wheel.  When officers awoke the woman, police stated her eyes were glassy, according to a report.  Two cans were taken as evidence from the scene.

The woman was released Monday on a $500 bond and is being charged with inhaling aromatic hydrocarbons.

One Person Airlifted After Three Car Charlotte Crash

At least three people were injured in a car wreck last Tuesday afternoon on the SouthEast side of Charlotte.  The incident happened just before 5 p.m. at the intersection of Ardrey Kell and Providence Road.

One person had to be taken by helicopter from the scene with serious injuries while the other two victims were transported to the Carolina Medical Center in Pineville.

According to the police reports, two SUV’s and a pickup truck were heavily damaged during the accident.  Also, A Charlotte Mecklenburg School bus was struck during the crash, but was not involved in the accident with the other cars, according to a report.

Police have not yet said if charges will be filed against any of the drivers.

NC Resident Arrested for Ninth DWI Charge

A North Carolina resident  apparently had trouble learning his lesson. The man was arrested for the ninth time on driving while impaired charges, according to authorities.

The man was pulled over by officers on Monday night for running a red light.  The man was pulled over while driving his moped and refused a breathalyzer test, according to authroities. This is the man’s ninth DWI in the last 25 years and the man has seven convictions for driving while impaired in other counties.

On the eighth driving while impaired charge for the man, he was pulled over for driving a boat while intoxicated.  The man remains in the Gaston County jail under a $250,000 bond. 

According to NC law, each DWI a person recieves brings with it a higher level of punishment. Specifically, upon one’s fourth or more offense, there is a mandatory permanent driver’s license revocation. Furthermore, the offense will be considered a felony if there has been three prior DWI convictions within the past seven years. The offense can carry with it one to three years of imprisonment, or a hefty fine.

Multiple Vehicle Crash on Brookshire Boulevard in Charlotte, NC

Last Friday night ended tragicially for four residents of Charlotte, NC, when they were involved in a multiple vehicle crash that left four people seriously injured. 

According to medics, the four Charlotte residents were taken immediately to the hospital to mitigate the life-threatening injuries sustained.  Although mulitple behicles were invloved, medics were unable to provide details on the cause of the accident and the current status of the victims involved. 

The accident occurred on Brookshire Boulevard between Ford Road and Interstate 85.

Four Arrested in Fort Mill During a York County DUI Crackdown

A weekend turned sour for four Fort Mill, SC residents.  Four people have been arrested for DUI this weekend after York Police Department DUI enforcement effort.

According to the York County Police Chief, officers worked diligently on patrol from 10 p.m. Saturday night, to 5 a.m. Sunday morning in hopes of  catching intoxicated drivers.  Specifically, one DUI arrest occurred due to an accident caused by the ineibrated driver. 

Other citations were issued along with the arrests for other various infractions. The York County Police Chief has commented that due to recent events, and rising numbers in car accidents due to intoxicated drivers, the entire force is trying to “beef up” the DUI enforcement by the end of next month.

 According to the police chief, this is due to the overwhelming amount of deaths and crashes occurring because of drunk drivers.
