A crash involving a motorcycle and two other vehicles left a woman dead and her husband injured in east Charlotte late Saturday night.
The crash happened around 9:51 p.m. on East Independence Boulevard when the driver of a Harley Davidson motorcycle approached slowing traffic due to road maintenance on the left hand shoulder of the road.
The driver of the motorcycle, attempting to avoid a crash, applied his brakes, started to skid and crashed into the back of a Pontiac Grand Am that was stopped in the middle lane.
The passenger on the bike, the driver’s wife, was thrown from the motorcycle upon impact.
The motorcycle then crashed into the back of a Ford Windstar in the left lane.
Both the driver of the motorcycle and his wife passenger were transported to Carolinas Medical Center Main; however, she did not survive her injuries from the crash.
No one else involved in the crash was injured.

A man talking on his cell phone caused a crash in Huntersville on Monday morning that sent another vehicle crashing into the side of a House. According to authorities, the crash happened around 10:30 a.m. along the 6700 block of Gilead Road.
The 41-year-old driver was talking on a cell phone when he ran off the road and crashed into a parked car in the driveway of the roadside home.
The impact of the crash sent the parked car into a supportive pillar of the home carport. The crash did not cause any major structural damage.
The driver suffered significant damage to the front-end of his car. He was charged with failure to reduce speed.

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer is recovering after a head on collision that happened in southwest Charlotte that left him seriously injured Tuesday afternoon.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. on the 10000 block of Steele Creek Road.
The officer was driving a marked police car, headed south on Steele Creek Road from Brown-Grier Road toward Westinghouse Boule Road when a Jeep Liberty SUV heading north on Steele Creek Road crossed the double-yellow line and crashed into the officer’s car head on.
The patrol car came to a stop on the shoulder of the road.
Firefighters responding to the crash had to cut off the top of the car to extract the policeman. It took firefighters 36 minutes to free the man from the car.
The officer was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center and remains in serious condition.
The driver of the Jeep SUV was also seriously injured and taken to the hospital by ambulance.

A car was severed in half after a Charlotte driver hit a curb, lost control of his car and plowed into a tree along Rama Road early Thursday morning.
At approximately 2 a.m., authorities received a call about a horrific crash that occurred along the 1200 block of Rama Road, just south of East Independence Boulevard.
According to Police, the car was sliced in two through the middle of the passenger cabin. It is believed that if anyone else had been riding in the car, they would not have survived.
Medics rushed the critically injured driver to the hospital. His condition is not known.
Authorities believe the car was headed northbound on Rama Road at dangerous speeds when the driver hit the curb, lost control and crashed into a tree.
The road was shut down while crews worked to investigate and clean up the crash.

Five were injured in a two-car crash that happened in northeast Charlottte Thursday morning after one car flipped multiple times.
The crash happened at approximately 11 a.m. at the intersection of W.T. Harris Boulevard and E. McCullough Drive.
According to authorities, a 62-year-old driver was pulling out of the public library driveway and was unable to see the second car.
The driver of the second vehicle attempted to swerve to avoid the crash and as a result, flipped several times coming to a rest at the median.
The second car had four people in it including the driver and her three children—agens 4, 3, and 2. They were all transported to Carolinas Medical Center. The driver was charged with Driving with a Revoked License and a Child Seat Violation since the car’s seatbelts were being used to secure the children, rather than child restraint seats.
The passenger of the 62-year-old driver’s car was transported to CMC-University for neck pain.

A driver is facing possible charges after a crash with a moped along Park Road that left one man dead.
Authorities say that the driver of the Moped was headed inbound from the 3400 block of Park Road at approximately 7 p.m. when a Honda CRV pulled out in front of him while attempting to make a right hand turn. The driver of the moped slammed on his brakes and laid the scooter on its side along the roadway.
The moped crashed into the rear of the Honda and hit another nearby car.
Although first responders rushed to the scene, they were unable to save the victim. The driver of the Honda was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle as well as failure to yield.
The driver of the other vehicle involved was not charged. The road was shut down for several hours late Wednesday night while investigators conducted an investigation and cleared the scene.
