A resident from Rock Hill was involved in a serious motorcycle accident this past Friday night that resulted in a fatality for the man.
According to the police reports, the man was driving his motorcycle southbound down Interstate 77 near Dave Lyle Boulevard in Rock Hill around 10:00 p.m. The man was reported to of not of been wearing a helment during the crash. The details are still a bit hazy as the investigation carries on; but the police do know that the man fell from his motorcycle, injuring himself.
Luckily, no other victims were harmed by this crash, and the resident was travelling alone at the time.
Rock Hill’s Captain of the Highway Patrol stated that the man had to be airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. The Coroner further added that the man was not pronounced dead upon arrival, but rather he lingered on until Tuesday evening, when he passed away.
The exact cause of the accident has still not been released. It is not apparent whether or not the man was intoxicated; whether or not he fell from his motorcycle in an attempt to avoid hitting something else; or whether or not there were any other parties involved who have not yet come forward.
In any event, travelling on a motorcycle can be a very dangerous means of transportation. The fact of the matter is the more metal you have around you to protect you in the event of an accident, the better it is. This is not to say that motorcycles should not be driven; however extra safety precautions should be exercised in doing so. In the case at hand, had the resident been wearing his helmet at the time, the motorcycle crash may not have ended in a fatality. Always follow the laws when driving motorcycle, and even more importantly, always wear your helmet and NEVER drink and drive.
However, no matter how safe you are, sometimes injury can not be prevented. Being involved in any sort of serious accident can be both traumatic and stressful to all the parties involved. The injuries that follow the accident simply add to the anxiety.
What is even more stressful is the fact that there is a clock ticking for the amount of time that you have to file suit against your opponent whom you believe caused the accident.
In the legal profession, this “ticking clock” is commonly referred to as the “statute of limitations.” “Statutes of limitations” are essentially the laws that are set in place that set the time limit on how long you have to file a civil action ( such as a personal injury claim) or, how long the state has to prosecute someone who has allegedly committed a crime.
The time limits will vary depending on the state and the legal claim or crime that is involved. In the state of South Carolina, for example, you have three years to file a personal injury lawsuit.
But what does that mean from a general standpoint? There are a few key rules to keep in mind when determining if your clock is about to tick it’s last tock: (1) the time period begins to run or start on the date the incident occurs. In other words, the day you got into the car accident is the date in which you have three years to bring your personal injury suit in South Carolina, and (2) once your statute has “ran”, you can no longer file your claim, and the prosecution can not prosecute for a crime.
If you, or someone you know has been involved in any sort of car accident or other personal injury resulting in serious damages, do not wait to contact an attorney. Remember, the clock is ticking from the date of the accident, not from the date of recovery. In order to recover, a lawsuit must be filed within that 3 year time limit. Let the experienced personal injury attorneys at Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower evaulate your claim today. Contact us at 803-548-4444 or toll free at 877-374-5999 for a free consultation.

A man from Rock Hill, SC found himself hospitalized after he engaged in an altercation with an arresting officer.
According to the reports, the 48-year-old man fought the officer until he ultimately kicked the officer in the face, following an arguement with family members. Apparently the man’s 32-year-old nephew is the one who contacted the police around 11:30 a.m., shortly after the ruccus started.
The nephew stated that his uncle was asked to leave the family home due to his intense intoxication issues, coupled with his argumentative behavior. Thereafter, a fight broke out, forcing the nephew to call the police.
When the police arrived, the uncle was unable to remain balanced on his own two feet, smelled of alcohol, and was slurring his speech. The police also noted that the uncle had his suitcase packed, but was unable to pick it up without falling over.
The police attempted to call the uncle a taxi, but as he left the house, he began to scream and shout profanities at the officers and the taxi driver upon arrival. The cops then placed the uncle under arrest for disturbing the peace.
As the officers tried to place the uncle in his cop car, the uncle kicked until he eventually hit one of the officers in the face with his shoe.
Apparently, even after the uncle was pulled out of the patrol car due to his stunt, he continued to kick at the officers. During the course of the uncle struggling, the fell backwards, hitting his head on the pavement, and suffering a few minor injuries on his elbow.
The man was taken first to the hospital for an assessment, but was later discharged. He was subsequently taken to jail for his reckless behavior.
He was subsequently charged with third-degree assault and battery as well as a public disorderly conduct charge. He was in jail until Thursday, when he was released on a $1,260 bond.

A Charlotte woman has been arrested and charged with a misdemeanor death by vehicle after she was involved in a fatal car accident Sunday morning. Accordingly, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrested the woman after she crashed her SUV into a Saturn and the driver subsequently died.
The police have not released what they believe to be the cause of the accident, however, the report does state that the 38 year old Charlotte resident crossed over the center line on Mallard Creek Road near the intersection of Sawgrass Ridge Place and struck a Saturn Ion head-on.
According to a nearby witness, the SUV flew up in the air, flipped twice while still air-born, and then landed on its hood. The witness stated that apparently the Saturn flipped as well, causing firefighters to have a tough time getting the driver out. It took the Fire Department 27 minutes to free the now deceased passenger of the Saturn.
The driver of the Saturn was pronounced dead upon arrival to Carolinas Medical Center. Two other passengers were airlifted to CMC-Main with Life threatening injuries.
Another witness played her role in supporting her community, when she ran to the SUV to help the four children inside. The witness states that the children all crawled out of the SUV and into her arms, where they stayed until the ambulance arrived. The children only had minor injuries and lacerations.
The Police arrested the driver of the SUV and charged her with “misdemeanor death by vehicle and driving with no liability insurance.”
She was released late Sunday night from the Mecklenburg County Jail under $10,500 bond.
