Drunk Driver Hits And Kills Pedestrian in Charlotte

A Charlotte man is facing charges of DWI after hitting and killing a pedestrian early Friday morning on Prosperity Church Road in northeast Charlotte.

The crash happened around 3:45 a.m., between Loganville Drive and Pantherville Drive when the man hit and killed a pedestrian that was walking his dog.

Police say the pedestrian died a few moments after the incident.  His dog was taken to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Animal Care and Control Bureau for treatment for a broken hind leg.

The driver exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested on the scene and charged with DWI.  Additional charges may be pending.

Moped Driver Struck & Killed in Charlotte

No charges have been filed after a weekend crash that killed a motorist driving a moped.

The 48-year-old motorist was riding a moped when he was hit by a SUV Saturday morning.

According to witnesses, the accident happened at the intersection of Independence Boulevard and Stalings Road when the motorist ran a red light and was struck and killed.

NCDOT Striving For Safety With New Highway Improvements

New signs have been posted on the ramp from Interstate 485 to Interstate 77 after the sharp turn in this area experienced a number of tractor-trailer crashes.

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the new signs are there to help remind drivers to practice safe driving techniques.

Workers began the project of putting up $10,000 worth of new signs at the dangerous ramp.

The signs are much like those that were already in place at the ramp, except they are at least twice the size.

DOT officials say that it is merely a temporary fix until the upcoming projects that include lane improvements.

Man Facing Serious Charges After Fatal DWI

A man is in jail on a $1 million dollar bail after being involved in a suspected DWI wreck Sunday that killed a tow truck driver.

The 50-year-old man was driving his box truck on Carolina Beach Road near McQuillan Drive when he drove into the now deceased 55-year-old man who was helping a motorist on the road.

The driver fled the scene, but was stopped nine miles down the road by police.

The man is charged with second-degree murder, driving whilc impaired, felony hit-and-run, habitual driving while impaired and driving while his license was revoked.

The man was unable to reduce his bail after the District Attorney after highlighting the man’s eight DWI convictions, 11 license suspensions, and a previous hit-and-run conviction.

The man’s court date for the accident is November 29.

Charlotte Teen Dead After Speeding Wreck

A Charlotte teen is dead after a dangerous wreck in Rowan County Sunday Morning.

According to authorities, the single vehicle accident happened around 9 a.m. on Goodnight Road after the 14-year-old driver exceeded the speed limit and struck a tree.

The driver died on the scene.

North Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing an investigation into the crash; however, authorities did say that charges are pending.

Collision in Charlotte Causes Potentially Life-Threatening Injuries

Three people suffered potentially life-threatening injuries after a traffic collision on North Tryon Street in Charlotte Saturday night.

The victims were transported to Carolinas Medical Center Main around 7 p.m. from the 9700 block of North Tryon where the wreck was located.

Eighteen firefighters responded to the crash, which caused significant traffic delays.

Authorities are still looking into the cause of the crash.
