Parents Sue Police After Son Killed by Taser

The parents of a deceased Charlotte man are suing the police department after their son died from being shocked by a Taser last year.

In the suit, Charlotte police are accused of using excessive, deadly force when shocking the 21-year-old man twice in July 2011.

Parents of the boy say he was shocked during an altercation between him and his girlfriend at the light rail station.

The Police attorney says the city is preparing their defense in the suit, which was filed Tuesday in federal court.  According to the Police attorney, the young man’s death is certainly tragic, but he nonetheless believes that the officers involved acted properly.

Recent studies have shown that between 2001 and 2008 351 people in the United States died after being shocked police Tasers.  Neighborhoods and communities across the nation trust police officers to serve and protect our loved ones.  However, the nature of police work demands officers to walk a fine line in using the appropriate amount of force to restrain individuals.  If you or someone you love has been injured in a serious accident involving a police officer or Taser gun, call Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower at 704-499-9000 or 877-374-5999 toll-free.

The rates for traffic accidents are higher for teens than any other age group.  It’s unfortunate, but the lack of experience leaves young drivers with poor hazard and risk detection, lower skill levels, and distracting tendencies.  It’s important that new drivers have thorough instruction and good examples to follow in the form of parents and other mentors.  If a young driver in your family experiences a serious accident, call the Accident Attorneys of Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower at 704-499-9000 or 877-374-5999 toll-free.
