The South Carolina Highway Patrol has recently released reports stating how dangerous the weather truly is for drivers on the thoroughfares.
Apparently, the Highway Patrol has reported that they have roughly 20 car accidents going on at all times. They range from extremely minor “fender benders,” to serious auto accidents that resulted in near death experiences.
They state that they can not say for certain exactly how many of the accidents are caused due to the weather, but they can state that their numbers are up and nothing has changed much aside from the massive amounts of rain.
The Department of Transportation has been put on notice as to the accidents, but short of controlling the speed limits and requesting drivers to slow down during inclement weather, there is nothing more to be done.
Take the proper precautions when driving in the rain, sleet, or snow. Do not speed and keep your focus on the road. Do not get distracted. For more information or help with a serious car accident, contact the law offices of Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower,LLP toll-free at 877-374-5999.

A York County, South Carolina man, who was charged with drinking alcohol and using marijuana before driving his girlfriend’s car, caused an accident that resulted in her death. He was recently sentenced to spend eight years in state prison. The man was charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in death, two counts of driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury, and driving under the influence. He faced a maximum of 55 years in prison, of which he only received eight during sentencing.
The incident occurred last year, after friends were helping the 18-year-old female victim move in with the offender in question. The group allegedly drank alcohol and smoked marijuana. Thereafter, they all decided to go to an area of Blacksburg that was rumored to be “haunted.” However, on their way back to York County, the man, who was found to be driving well over the posted speed limit, sped around a curve, and swerved into the left side of the road. Then, according to the York County Solicitor, the man over-corrected, slammed into five trees, and two of the kids were thrown from the car. At this point, the car was standing up-right.
All four people in the vehicle were taken to the hospital, where the critically injured girlfriend died shortly thereafter. Police charged the man when he was discharged from the hospital. The man’s sentence requires him to attend substance abuse and vocational counseling and to pay the families restitution of the injured. The parents of the woman asked the judge to give the man alcohol and drug counseling. Also, his license had been suspended two weeks before the crash, which adds a driving while license is revoked charge.

A tragedy occurred last night when a tractor-trailer collided with a good Samaritan who jumped out of his vehicle to help an overturned SUV near Westinghouse Boulevard.
According to the police reports, the initial accident was between a Mini-van and an SUV that was traveling northbound on I-77 and side-swiped one another, causing the first collision.
Somehow, the SUV ended up in the middle of the interstate in the northbound lanes.
Upon arrival to the scene, a good Samaritan leapt from his vehicle and rushed to the overturned SUV to help the victim lodged in the vehicle.
It was only a few seconds later, and to everyone’s dismay, that a tractor-trailer came zooming by, pushing the SUV several feet across the highway, and killing both men instantly.
The person driving the Mini-van only suffered minor injuries. Sadly, the same can not be said for the man driving the SUV, and the man who graciously risked his life to help the injured.
Interstate 77 had to be shut down for multiple hours while a clean-up crew worked around the clock to have the streets cleaned for all of the morning travelers.
As of this morning, no charges have yet been filed against the tractor-trailer operator. The names of the two victims has yet to be releases.
