This past weekend was a dangerous one for drivers of secondary and rural roads, according to the SCDOT reports. Accordingly, five people were killed from car collisions while using South Carolina’s rural and back roads for their travels.
One individual who lost his life was a marine stationed in Georgia and headed back to the base from a long weekend in South Carolina.
S.C. Highway Patrol Cpl. states that the marine appeared to have been traveling south on Friendship Road at a high rate of speed when his GMC truck went off the road. The marine veered back and forth several times attempting to stabilize the vehicle before the truck left the right side of the road and struck a tree before going airborne, and eventually overturning, taking the marine’s life. The Coroner’s report states that he died from massive head and neck trauma due to the collision, which occurred sometime after 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Moreover, it has been released that the marine was not wearing his seat belt, and speed was a contributing factor to the collision.

A 69-year old man passed away after a motorcycle accident that occurred last Saturday in West Rock Hill. Wednesday, the victim was pronounced dead at the Lehigh County Hospital, after fighting for his life for four days. The Lehigh County First Deputy Coroner has reported that the victim died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Accordingly, the report reads that the victim was literally ejected from his seat, after he lost control of the motorcycle around mile marker 25.2 on Route 309. The accident currently still under investigation.

A resident from Lancaster County, South Carolina, passed away last month due to a motorcycle accident that had occurred earlier in the month. The victim clung onto life for about a week, before she finally perished.
According to the reports, the motorcycle accident occurred on S.C. 5, around 4:45 p.m. The victim was riding a 1997 Kawasaki motorcycle westward on S.C. 5, about 12 miles north of the Lancaster county line. The collision occurred when a vehicle traveling east on S.C.5 turned left onto Steel Hill Road, and immediately collided with the victim’s motorcycle. Subsequently, the victim was airlifted to a hospital in Charlotte.

So while active duty Marines only make up 0.064% of the US population, they accounted for 0.5% of the motorcycle deaths. That means that Marines accounted for more than 10 times the motorcycle casualties than you would expect.
Also, these Marines apparently like their sport bikes over Harleys. 78 percent of motorcycle mishaps in the Marines occurred on a sport bike, compared to 38 percent nationally.

According to WBTV reporting, Dave Lyle Boulevard in Rock Hill was shut down for more than three hours on the night of Saturday, June 3rd, after Vonvorie Barnett, 31, said South Carolina Highway Patrol. Unfortunately, Mr. Barnett was not wearing a helmet and collided with a car turning left from the I-77 ramp onto Dave Lyle Boulevard.
Mr. Barnett was thrown. Paramedics flew him to the hospital.
The driver of the car was not seriously injured.
