Two teens were injured when the car they were in crashed into a CATS bus in South Park Tuesday morning.
According to authorities, the driver of the car was turning onto Barclay Downs Road from Ferncliff Road when the driver lost control and crashed into the bus.

In 2009, a total of 3,466 teenagers ages 13-19 were killed in motor vehicle crashes. This accounted for approximately a third of all teenage deaths that year. Additionally, 16 year olds have a higher crash rate than any other age group of drivers. Road safety is a responsibility for all road users, regardless of age. That’s why it’s important for teens to have strong encouragement from parents, teachers, and other mentors to practice safe driving in those primitive years on the road.

A Carolina Department of Transportation (DOT) worker was killed early this morning in a car crash.
Accordingly, the Police Department was forced to shut down large portions of Old Highway 421 due to the fatality. The wreck occurred around 5:00 a.m., right after the DOT worker had left for work this morning.
No other information has been released at this time about this deadly crash, and officials are not releasing the DOT worker’s name until the family has been notified of this tragedy.
Wrongful death cases are multifaceted. A thorough investigation must be started almost immediately in order to preserve critical evidence in a fatality. Autopsies are almost always necessary to determine the exact mechanism and cause of death. There is the issue of whether the decedent died instantly or may have a “survival action.” The medical reports can be very confusing as they include external anatomy examination, internal organ examination, microscopic review of tissues, as well as fluid toxicology testing for drugs, alcohol, or disease.

There is a current investigation going on for the North Carolina Highway Patrol where a single-vehicle accident has critically inured one of their officers.
According to the police report, the officer was off-duty when his motorcycle wrecked on Sunday evening, around 10:15 p.m. There were no other vehicles involved in the accident.
The officer was subsequently rushed to Gaston Memorial Hospital, where he has remained in critical condition in the surgical intensive unit since then. Moreover, there are reports that the officer may have obtained serious head injuries; it is too early to tell.
It remains apparent that motorcycles carry with them more danger than your average car. The rationale being that when involved in a motorcycle accident, your body is more susceptible to injury, as there is nothing between you and the ground. Even wearing a helmet may not always protect you o your brain from injury. Travelling back roads can add more risk as motorcycles often get their wheels caught in poorly kept roads, namely, in pot holes.
If you or a loved one has suffered any sort of serious accident due to a motorcycle accident, please contact the motorcycle and head injury attorneys at Reeves, Aiken, and Hightower and let us help you evaluate your claim. In May of this year, a tractor-trailer overturned on Interstate 77 during Rock Hill’s evening rush hour, causing serious delays for all drivers south of the border.
According to the Rock Hill police report, the tractor-trailer apparently had been heading northbound and some how made it into the southbound lanes. Luckily, the only vehicle involved in the accident was the tractor-trailer. Moreover, the driver and passenger of the tractor-trailer did suffer minor injuries, but were released from the hospital the same day.
Helicopter surveillance showed that around 5:30 p.m., only one lane of traffic was moving, and all drivers had to veer around the wrecked tractor-trailer.
Consequently, the traffic was backed up for nearly five miles and the wreck took over two hours to clean up, causing severe traffic for fellow Rock Hillians.
Studies from 2010 reveal that 3,675 people were killed and 80,000 people injured in crashes involving large trucks. During that same year, 276,00 large trucks were involved in traffic crashes. Of the fatalities involving large trucks reported in 2010, 76 percent were occupants of other vehicles, 10 percent were nonoccupants, and 14 percent were occupants of the large trucks.
Although truck drivers are required to have more skills than the normal driver, the shear size of these vehicles provides reason enough to exercise caution. A local Lancaster Police Department Officer was injured earlier this month when he was involved in a “foot chase,” while chasing after a runaway defendant.
Accordingly, the defendant was hospitalized at Springs Memorial Hospital earlier this month. The Lancaster Police Department responded to a call from the hospital, informing them that the defendant had just shattered the Emergency Medical Services door and ran away.
Apparently, the man was detained by the LPD only minutes before his attempted escape. While the officers were on the way to the hospital to report to the call, one Deputy saw the 24-year-old defendant running along the side of the road.
One officer immediately sprung out of the patrol car and began to chase the defendant ” on foot.” The defendant ran behind a house, jumping a fence and ended up in a resident’s backyard. Incidentally, when the defendant jumped the fence, he landed in the resident’s bird bath and injured himself.
Despite the injury, he continued to run until the officer caught him and placed the defendant under arrest, handcuffs and all. The defendant was brought back to the Emergency Room and restrained there.
The defendant was later released from the hospital, and placed in the custody of the Lancaster Police Department.
Studies conducted in 2010 revealed that 4,280 pedestrians were killed and an estimated 70,000 were injured in traffic crashes in the U.S. On average, a pedestrian was killed every 2 hours and injured every eight minutes in traffic collisions. Road safety is a responsibility for all road users, drivers and pedestrians alike. However, pedestrians can take extra precautions to ensure that the inherent vulnerability of walking around motor vehicles can be mitigated as much as possible. If you are a pedestrian traveler, be sure stay visible to drivers by wearing bright and/or reflective clothing and carrying a flashlight. Walk and stand clear of buses, hedges, parked vehicles, and other hazards before crossing.
